"This
commission was particularly meaningful to me as I was the
exercise rider of Super Diamond when he won the Hollywood Gold
Cup. The old gelding was anything but lovable, but had a character that everyone loved (from afar)! Doing this commission
for his trainer, the late Eddie Gregson, who was well known for
his discerning taste in art, put an added pressure on me,
particularly at that early stage in my career. We chose to
portray him dragging his groom, Manuel, to the paddock, as
anyone who knew the horse knew he dragged everyone everywhere.
Eddie, in his usual generous manner, ordered three and gave
one to his assistant and one to the groom, Manuel." |
