I had always wanted to sculpt
a stallion but it was 15 years before I had the opportunity to
do so. John Greely commissioned me to do his stallion “Five Star
Day”. It was at the tail end of breeding season when I
photographed him and I wondered if I would have a problem
getting him to stand for his photos. I looked through my lens
and there he was, standing like the sculpture that I had
envisioned. He continued to pose like a statue for the next 15
minutes. I thought to myself, “If I can’t do a good sculpture of
this horse, I’ll have no excuses!” Class act. I must have
succeeded because I have since received commissions to do 3 more
of the Wintergreen stallions.
