Symboli Kris S was the Horse of The Year in Japan. I flew to Hokkaido to photograph him where he stands at the Shadai Stallion Station. He’s a magnificent horse with a lot of presence and verve; very Kris S. physically. I was attempting to describe to Mr. Wada my impressions of the horse, and how I wished to portray him. The translator was having a difficult time with my phrase ‘the look of eagles’. I wasn’t able to help by trying to do a version of charades. Poor Mr. Wada, I still think he thought I was saying his horse looked like a bird….
