Del Mar traditionally commissions an oil painting of the Pacific Classic winner. Thus, when it was decided for the first time to have a sculpture done, I was very flattered to be the sculptor chosen.

 One casting is in the Del Mar collection and one was presented to the horse’s primary owner, Jon Kelly. It was actually Jon Kelly who persuaded me to do the multi-colored patina. Being a traditionalist, I was a bit reluctant at first, but the horse does have a lot of characteristic white markings, so we gave it a go. It couldn’t have turned out better; many people have said Borrego looks almost alive. The moral of the story? The customer is often right!
